Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID)
AVID is a college preparatory program for students who are academically “in the middle” who meet two of the following qualifiers: low socio-economic status, first generation college, and/or between a 2.5-3.5 grade point average, exhibiting potential to attain acceptance to a four year university. Contact your student’s counselor for more information. MCHS AVID webpage

504 Plan
Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act prohibits discrimination based on disability. This law protects students who have a physical or mental impairment which substantially limits one or more major life activities. A team of educators convenes to determine if a student qualifies for a 504 Plan. Consideration for a 504 Plan is usually preceded by an SAT or IAT. Click here to view A Parent’s Guide to Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. Contact your student’s counselor for more information.
Individual Education Plan
The Individual Education Program Plan (IEP) is a written plan developed by a team that identifies the student’s academic goals and the methods to obtain these goals. This team includes the student, parents, general and special education professionals, as well as other individuals deemed appropriate. The school psychologist, in conjunction with the special education department, determines eligibility for an IEP based upon the results of academic, cognitive, and/or speech and language testing. Contact your student’s counselor for more information.
