2025-2026 Volunteers!

Thank you for your interest in becoming a volunteer, and for the time and energy you contribute to the students and staff at Mt. Carmel High School.  PUSD has launched a new online volunteer application process designed to streamline the application experience.

At MCHS, we ask that ONLY people who have been pre-approved by a MCHS teacher to volunteer for a planned activity or program to complete the Volunteer Application.  This will allow us to process applications efficiently and ensure volunteers are ready as needed.  If you already submitted a volunteer application without teacher pre-approval, we will need deny the application for now, but please apply again once you have communicated with the teacher and received pre-approval to volunteer.  We keep families informed of upcoming opportunities within the MCHS Newsletter and MC Counseling Scoop, and from our PTSA.  You are welcome to contact the school office if you would like to learn more about ways to get involved in the future.

MCHS Visitors / Volunteers

Most people visiting Mt. Carmel High School will check in as a visitor.  Will you be a visitor or volunteer at MCHS?  The following information will help you determine your next step.

Visitors are individuals visiting a classroom on a limited basis or attending multiple events throughout the school year.  For example, visiting as a guest lecture, college representative, and those helping with an event on a limited basis (registration, occasional general school need, etc.).  Staff preapproval is required prior to your visit, and please be sure to bring a state or government issued photo id with you when you check-in at the front office on your day of arrival.

Volunteers are individuals that help on campus to support learning and activities or in a classroom on a regular basis.  Staff preapproval is required to become a volunteer.  Volunteers will then need to submit the required volunteer paperwork to become a volunteer at MCHS.  Once the volunteer application has been approved, the approval is valid for the current school year or as the teacher needs the volunteer assistance during the school year, and will need to be renewed each year.

All visitors and volunteers coming on campus must be prearranged by the MCHS staff member with the front office  prior to the visit. All visitors and volunteers are required to sign in at the front office, present a valid state or government issued ID, and wear the printed name tag each day you are on campus.  This will help campus staff to identify people on our campus in maintaining a safe campus.

MCHS Volunteers
Thank you for your interest in becoming a volunteer, and for the time and energy you contribute to the students and staff at Mt. Carmel High School.

Interested in becoming a volunteer at MCHS?  Once you have connected with a staff member in need of a volunteer, the MC staff member will provide the front office the name and the volunteer clearance level that will be needed.

Steps to become a volunteer - Complete the required online Volunteer Application forms annually (see links at the top of this page):
  1. Volunteer Application form - Submitting the volunteer application form will perform a Megan's Law background check.  All volunteers will be processed for level 1 clearance.  The need for Level 2 clearance will be determined based on how a volunteer will be assisting a teacher/staff member as per PUSD guidelines.
  2. Driver License or state/government issued ID card.  If you need to use a passport or other form of ID, please upload the document.  Note - You might need to bring the document to the front office for verification.
  3. Provide a current TB test (valid for 4 years from the Read Date), including chest x-rays.  X-rays over 4 years old MUST be accompanied by a California School Employee Tuberculosis Risk Assessment Questionnaire, that is valid for 4 years, as well.  When submitting a current TB test with your volunteer application, please be sure the following information is on the TB test; clinic information (name, location, dr. or RN stamp/signature), date of test, read date, test results, and volunteer's first and last name and birth date.  If you are uploading your TB test results from a medical app on your device, please note some tests are not showing all information needed.  You might need to print the test results and then take a picture of the results to upload to the application.
  4. Code of Conduct form - You will print your name, sign, and date.
  5. Code of Confidentiality form - You will print your name, sign, and date.

Once all online documents have been processed and approved, you will be ready to begin volunteering.  If you are a current volunteer at another PUSD school or are a current PUSD staff member wanting to become a volunteer at MCHS, please complete all of the required volunteer forms online, as each school site is required to have their own current volunteer documents.

TB Testing

Volunteers need to have a current TB test (valid for 4 years from the Read Date).  Please provide a copy of your most recent TB test to the front office.  As of the 2024-2025 school year, chest x-rays are valid for 4 years from the x-ray date.  Once the x-ray is older than 4 years, a Risk Assessment form can be completed by provider, and submitted with the original x-ray results when submitting volunteer paperwork.

We wanted to notify you of a change in the required tuberculosis testing for school volunteers effective July 1, 2017. Due to new regulations from both the state and county, PUSD nurses will no longer be providing TB clearance. If you are due for your screening (once every four years), we are hoping this advance notification will give you ample time over the summer to comply, before the start of the new school year. The law requires that TB clearance be completed by a licensed health care provider. The provider will determine if risk factors exist and provide a TB test, if needed. Here are a few nearby resources where you can obtain TB clearance. There may be a fee or co-pay involved at some locations:
  • Your primary health care provider
  • CVS Minute Clinic, 16773 Bernardo Center Dr., Rancho Bernardo, CA 92128 or,
  • CVS Minute Clinic, 12358 Poway Rd., Poway, CA 92064
  • Neighborhood Health Clinic, 460 N. Elm St., Escondido, CA 92025, 760-520-8100, Hours: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday: 1:00-4:00, Wednesday: 2:30-4:00
  • Public Health Center, 649 West Mission Ave, Suite 2, Escondido, CA 92025, 619- 692-5565
Proof of TB clearance is mandated for volunteers working in public schools. Please submit written TB clearance signed by your health care provider to your school site. Again, thank you for your understanding and cooperation. And with your help, we look forward to another successful school year.

Please review the TB Clinic Schedule and if you have further questions about the TB Clinic please call Health Services at (858) 521-2812.
