welcome to the presentation about AP government and politics at Mount Carmel understanding of the American system of we learn about real people whose political actions have led to real changes and whose stories will help you build a thorough understanding of government in context we learn that our voices Mater the Constitution is based on the idea that sovereignty comes the people and that government is limited we explore how the Constitution balances individual Freedom order and equality of opportunity we understand that power is divided among the president A two-house legislature and the court I'm not a huge branch of government checks the others to prevent any one branch from becoming too powerful we learn that power is also divided between the national government and the states and that this causes continuing controversy over how much power the states compared to the national government this class is dedicated to understanding and debating how best to protect property order Liberty and equality who sharpens your ability to interpret the political world it gives you an opportunity to gain knowledge build and reasoning practices that will help you understand and participate in government and politics throughout your life and if we don't focus on memorization instead we focus on thinking and doing which comes with its own set of skills and challenges beyond the scores you will take the AP exam AP exam for US Government & politics focuses on disciplinary practices and processes that require you to think like a political scientist this exam will ask me to apply what you have learned to real-world scenarios they exam provide you with a chance to demonstrate your ability to understand and interpret data about Law & policy this course also includes nine foundational documents we pick apart the sections of the US Constitution or Federalist Papers the scores also includes 15 required Supreme Court case decision on constitutional law and explain these required readings and helps you understand stand about four simplified structure of this course is demanding the class is organized in a way that will prepare you for an upper-division college level social science through the course you'll learn how to navigate complex tasks on your own how do you lies the instructor for support and how to manage and assess your own learning we take time to learn how to independently preparation for in class learning experiences we learn how to write like a social scientist how to research like a journalist and how to engage and respectful civil discourse with each other a few questions to consider if you are interested in taking this course are you interested in learning about government and politics are you willing to work hard and put the time and effort into a course that is demanding your senior year of high school are you interested in learning the skills necessary for success in an upper-division social science course are you open to learning in an environment that requires you to moderate your own learning are you willing to ask questions collaboratively and engage in respectful political decision discussion sign up for look forward to meeting you next year
